The New Religion is a powerful symbolic painting exploring humanity’s relationship with nature, belief and forces beyond our control.
At the centre, a powerful female figure represents Nature itself — ancient, living and increasingly angered by humanity’s actions. Five figures representing different religious traditions gather at the foot of the volcano, their differences becoming insignificant against the immense power of nature.
The ruins of Pompeii remind us how quickly a civilisation can disappear, while the lower part of the painting brings the story into the modern world through images of war, hunger, propaganda, technology and children. Together, these elements create a fragmented vision of a world shaped by forces that individuals cannot always understand or control.
The painting asks us to reconsider humanity’s belief that we are the architects of evolution.
