Peony Art
My 2019 Luoyang journey: life drawing, a 30-meter collaborative painting, and calligraphy inspiration
Peony Festival: Art in Luoyang
Every spring, Luoyang in Henan province hosts the Peony Festival, celebrating the peony — the symbolic “king of flowers.” During the 2019 festival, I explored the vibrant atmosphere of the event, drawing inspiration from over 1,300 varieties of peony in dozens of colors and forms.
I took part in life drawing sessions of the peony flowers, capturing their delicate beauty and spirit. Together with 29 other artists, I contributed to a 30-meter collaborative painting, an event that was also covered by TV. The festival featured exhibitions of ink movement, traditional philosophy, and contemporary calligraphy — experiences that continue to shape my artistic practice.
Through these activities, the Peony Festival offered a unique blend of art, culture, and botanical wonder, providing inspiration for my teaching and ongoing exploration of Chinese calligraphy.
